Western Tragopan Photo Mug Collection

The Western Tragopan is a species of pheasant native to the Himalayan region, and is one of the most beautiful and endangered birds in the world, with its unique plumage and bright colors. The male has a vibrant orange-red head, white throat, and black breast. Its wings are black with white spots on the tips of its feathers. The female is brownish-gray in color with a reddish-brown crown and neck feathers. This species prefers dense coniferous forests at high elevations where it feeds on fruits, seeds, insects, small mammals, and other invertebrates. Breeding season occurs from April to June when males display their colorful plumage to attract mates. Unfortunately due to habitat destruction caused by human activities such as logging and agriculture this species is now listed as vulnerable by IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
