EDITORS COMMENTS
Step into the enchanting world of Victorian fashion with this collection of Pardussus and Mantles, showcased in this exquisite photograph from Mary Evans Prints Online. The image transports us back in time to the late 19th century, where elegant women donned these intricately designed garments for formal occasions and grand events. The centerpiece of the photograph is a regal purple Pardussus, featuring a voluminous skirt and a delicate Guipure pelerine that frames the wearer's face. The pelerine, a detachable collar or cape, adds an air of sophistication and mystery. The Pardussus is accessorized with a matching bonnet adorned with a net veil, which completes the refined look. To the left of the image, a sleek black Pardussus with a luxurious fur trim catches the eye. The pardessus, a type of gown or robe, is worn over a corset and petticoat, highlighting the hourglass silhouette of the wearer. The contrast between the matte fabric and the glossy fur adds texture and depth to the ensemble. A young child, dressed in a blue Pardussus with fur trim, plays innocently in the background. Her outfit mirrors the adult designs, demonstrating the influence of fashion on all ages during this era. To the right, a brown Mantle with a black fur cape adds a touch of drama and sophistication to the scene. The mantle, a versatile garment that could be worn as a cloak or a draped shawl, is a staple in any Victorian wardrobe. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of fashion during the Victorian era, where intricate details, luxurious fabrics, and timeless designs reigned supreme. The Pardussus and Mantles depicted in this image are a reminder of the elegance and grace that defined the fashion of the time, making it a must-see for anyone interested in historical costume and design.
