In the languid heat of 1918, as the world continued to grapple with the aftermath of war and the inexorable march of time, a man found himself bemoaning the lack of speed and motion in his life. Little did he know that a visit to the natural world would offer him a new perspective on the beauty of slowness. In this evocative photograph, we see the man, with a furrowed brow and a pensive expression, as he examines the mount of an extraordinary creature. The creature in question is a giant tortoise, its massive shell and ancient, wrinkled visage a testament to the passage of time.
