RMS Titanic sFirst Class passenger Stanley May letter

RMS TITANIC: First Class passenger Stanley May onboard letter written April 11th 1912 at 11am. The letter talks of the New York incident and calls the ship a floating palace, written on two sides. It also mentions the book of postcards purchased on board by Mr May, sold previously by Henry Aldridge & Son. NB: Richard and Stanley May, Lily, Kate and Jack Odell travelled on the Titanic together. Both the Odells and Mays brought cameras with them on a planned fishing and motoring trip to Ireland which involved crossing the Irish Sea by the Titanic. Their time on board resulted in a number of photos being taken and culminated in one of the last known photographs of the Titanic at Queenstown. Henry Aldridge sold the Mays album of photographs for over £37, 000. The group travelled to Southampton where they boarded the Titanic for the voyage to Queenstown (ticket number 84 costing £24). Father Francis Browne SJ travelled on the same ticket, being of course responsible for some of the most iconic photographs of Titanic ever taken. Date: 1912

EDITORS COMMENTS
This first class passenger letter, penned by Stanley May onboard RMS Titanic on April 11, 1912 at 11am, offers a unique insight into the luxurious experience aboard the ill-fated ship. The letter, written on two sides, references the New York incident and extols the Titanic as a "floating palace." Stanley May and his traveling companions, the Odells - Richard, Lily, Kate, and Jack - were part of a planned fishing and motoring trip to Ireland. They brought their cameras on board, resulting in a series of photographs, one of which is the last known image of the Titanic at Queenstown. The group had purchased a book of postcards on board, which was later sold by Henry Aldridge & Son Ltd. for over £37,000. The Mays and the Odells had boarded the Titanic together, sharing ticket number 84, which cost £24. Another notable passenger on the same ticket was Father Francis Browne SJ, who captured some of the most iconic photographs of the Titanic during its tragic voyage. This letter, a poignant artifact from a bygone era, provides a glimpse into the lives of these passengers and their excitement as they embarked on their journey, unaware of the calamitous events that awaited them.
