This evocative photograph captures August von Mackensen in the early stages of his illustrious military career, during his first year of service with the Prussian 2nd Life Hussar Regiment in 1869. The young soldier, who would later rise to the rank of Field Marshal in the German army, is seen here in the rolling fields of Germany, proudly wearing the distinctive uniform of the Prussian cavalry.
