El-Kantara, located in the Tassili n'Ajjer region in southern Algeria, was renowned for its unique architecture, with houses built directly into the red sandstone formations. The villagers, primarily Berber and Tuareg people, lived in harmony with the harsh desert environment, utilizing the natural resources to construct their homes and eke out a living. The photograph offers a glimpse into the daily life of the villagers, with figures visible in the foreground tending to their livestock and children playing nearby.
