Sir John Eldon Gorst, a lawyer and statesman, is caricatured as a bunny rabbit, nimbly perched on the Duke's chest, attempting to steal his gun. The Duke of Devonshire, Spencer Compton Cavendish (1833-1908), was known for his love of hunting and shooting, but his reputation as a lazy aristocrat was not unwarranted.
