At the far end of the pier stands a solitary small lighthouse or beacon used to guide ships and boats into the town harbour. Although the sea is calm in the image, the dark and moody sky suggest a storm could be massing and will break soon, the blue tones of the image adding further to this feeling of impending harsh nature
