EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an exquisite Officers grenadier cap from the 65th Regiment of Foot, dating back to 1758. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this cap is a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the British School in the 18th century. Made from luxurious wool and velvet cloth, adorned with intricate metal and silk thread embroidery, this cap exudes elegance and sophistication. The front of the cap proudly displays the royal cypher along with the white horse of Hanover, symbolizing loyalty to King George II. The 65th Regiment of Foot was established in 1758, and this magnificent headpiece would have been worn by officers during that time. However, in 1768 a Royal Warrant brought an end to these lavishly embroidered caps as bearskins became favored instead. Preserved at the National Army Museum in London, this artifact serves as a tangible link to Britain's military history. Its beauty transcends time, offering us a glimpse into the fashion and traditions of soldiers who served centuries ago. Through this print by Bridgeman Images on Fine Art Finder, we can appreciate not only its aesthetic appeal but also its historical significance. It reminds us of the dedication and sacrifice made by those who wore such regal attire while serving their country.
