EDITORS COMMENTS

Charlton's masterpiece showcases soldiers from various nationalities coming together for a review. The composition highlights both national companies and mixed units within the corps. This harmonious coexistence of different cultures and backgrounds is beautifully captured on canvas. The vibrant colors and meticulous attention to detail bring life to each soldier portrayed in the painting. From their distinct uniforms to their proud stances, every individual contributes to the overall grandeur of this historic moment. "The Shanghai Volunteers at a Review, 1892" serves as an important reminder of unity amidst diversity and demonstrates how people can come together for a common cause despite their differences.
