EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic photograph taken by Rebecca Naden of the PA Archive/Press Association Images, Chelsea Football Club's jubilant players celebrate their FA Cup victory over Middlesbrough at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 14, 1997. The team, led by manager Gianluca Vialli, secured their second FA Cup title in three years with a 2-0 win over their opponents. Standing proudly in the front row of the triumphant team are (from left to right) Frank Leboeuf, Eddie Newton, Dennis Wise, and Mark Hughes. Leboeuf, a French international defender, had only joined the club the previous season but quickly became a key player in the team's defense. Newton, an English midfielder, was a versatile player who could slot into various positions in the team. Wise, a tenacious midfielder, was a fan favorite for his grit and determination on the pitch. Hughes, a Welsh international striker, was the team's top scorer in the 1996-97 season and played a crucial role in the team's success. Behind them, the sea of blue and white shirts of the Chelsea supporters can be seen, their voices echoing through the stadium as they celebrated their team's victory. The FA Cup triumph marked a significant moment in Chelsea's history, as it came during a period of transition and rebuilding under Vialli's leadership. The team would go on to win the League Cup the following season, cementing their status as a force to be reckoned with in English football. This photograph captures the raw emotion and excitement of that moment, a testament to the passion and dedication of Chelsea Football Club and its fans.
