EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures a unique advertising artifact from 1921 - the Players Weights pull-forward counter card. The card is ingeniously composed of actual Weights cigarette packets, arranged in a roughly triangular or pyramid shape. Although slightly damaged with a missing part on the right-hand side and a detached bottom right-hand corner, its historical value remains intact. The text boldly printed on the card reads "Players // WEIGHTS" // CIGARETTES // PROV. PAT. ", showcasing the brand's name and promoting their popular tobacco product. On the reverse side of this intriguing piece, we find a handwritten note that adds to its authenticity and provenance. It states: "PLEASE RETURN TO // JOHN PLAYER & SONS // ADVERTISING STORES // ARCHIVES // GARDEN ST RADFORD // NOTTM". This photograph offers us a glimpse into Nottingham's rich advertising history and highlights John Player & Sons' significant role in shaping the tobacco industry during that era. It serves as both an artistic representation of early 20th-century marketing techniques and an important archival item for enthusiasts interested in exploring Nottingham's past
