Animals - Frogs: Even fat frogs can grow on you in time
Animals - Frogs: Even fat frogs can grow on you in time. As pretty Kelsay Smith has discovered. This enormous African numbskull frog has been hanging around her for ages, on and off. Looking very pleased with the impression he has made, too. Thirteen-year-old Kelsay, whose parents run Exmouth Zoo, in Devon, says: " Hes called Fred, hes very friendly - and he doesn t chew the furniture." Kelsay has cared for him since he arrived at the zoo four years ago, and she recalls: " Fred was only tiny when we got him, but he just grew and grew." She feeds him regularly and clearly finds it hard to resist his charms. Thats the funny thing about these pets, of course. Kelsay didn t mean to fall for the ugly brute at all. He just caught her on the hop. May 1976 P011722

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming vintage photo print, we see the unlikely friendship that has blossomed between pretty Kelsay Smith and an enormous African numbskull frog named Fred. Despite his size and rather unattractive appearance, Fred has managed to win over Kelsay's heart with his friendly nature and lack of destructive habits. Kelsay, a thirteen-year-old girl whose parents run Exmouth Zoo in Devon, has been caring for Fred since he arrived at the zoo four years ago. She fondly recalls how he was just a tiny frog when they first met but has since grown into quite the hefty amphibian. Even though she didn't intend to fall for this "ugly brute". Fred's presence in her life has become something she cherishes. The photograph captures the joy on Kelsay's face as she poses beside her beloved pet. It is evident that their bond goes beyond appearances, proving that even fat frogs can grow on you over time. The humor in their relationship is not lost either, as Kelsay playfully mentions how Fred doesn't chew furniture like some other pets might. This snapshot from May 1976 reminds us of the unique friendships that can form between humans and animals. It serves as a testament to the power of connection and shows us that beauty truly lies in unexpected places.
