EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "Snake man Charms Court" we witness the extraordinary moment when busker Denis Carthy managed to charm not only his audience but also a courtroom full of people. On that fateful Monday in August 1982, Denis found himself facing a fine for obstruction, but he had an unconventional plan up his sleeve. With confidence and flair, Denis entered Marlborough Street Court with his loyal companion, Monty Python - a magnificent six-foot snake. As a talented flute player, Denis incorporated Monty into his snake-charming act performed on the lively streets of Soho in London. Curiosity piqued within the court as Magistrate Mr. St. John Harmsworth requested to see Monty firsthand. The room erupted in laughter as the beak marveled at the beauty of this slithering creature before him. In an unexpected turn of events, amidst smiles and amusement from all present, Mr. Harmsworth dismissed the obstruction fine against Denis. Later reflecting on this peculiar incident, Denis humorously remarked that perhaps Mr. Harmsworth had developed an infatuation with Monty's enchanting presence. This remarkable photograph captures not only a unique encounter between man and reptile but also showcases how music and entertainment have no boundaries or limitations when it comes to capturing hearts - even within the solemn walls of justice itself.
