The quaint French colonial town, nestled between the deep blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and the verdant hills, is a picture of tranquility and beauty. The iconic St. Pierre Bay, with its protective volcanic hill, is a popular anchor point for seafarers. On May 8, 1902, Mount Pelee erupted, unleashing a devastating pyroclastic flow that engulfed St. Pierre, destroying the town and killing an estimated 30,000 people.
