Studio photograph of a British soldier in khaki uniform. Printed by The Clock Tower Studios, 1 Marine Terrace, Elephant Hill, Margate. On the reverse is written Feb 8th 1915. To Madam From 10608 Pte. A. Anderson, 5th Royal Berks. Private Alexander Anderson was a patient at Quex Park between 14th January and 25th February 1915. He was suffering from influenza. Private Anderson died of wounds on 25 September 1915. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium.The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum. Date: 1915

This poignant studio photograph captures the image of Private Alexander Anderson, a brave British soldier from the 5th Royal Berks Regiment, taken during his recovery from influenza at Quex Park VAD Hospital in Margate, England. The image, printed by The Clock Tower Studios, shows Private Anderson in his khaki uniform, with a serious yet hopeful expression on his face. The reverse of the print bears the inscription "To Madam" and the signature of the soldier, "From 10608 Pte. A. Anderson." Private Anderson was a patient at Quex Park between January 14th and February 25th, 1915. Sadly, he did not recover fully and later died of wounds on September 25th, 1915. He is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium, as he has no known grave. Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on October 15th, 1914, and was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant of the hospital was Hannah Powell-Cotton, the wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton of Quex Park, who founded the Powell-Cotton Museum. The hospital treated soldiers recovering from various injuries and illnesses, including influenza, and closed on January 31st, 1919. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers during the First World War and the important role of hospitals in caring for them.
