"This evocative image captures the Sepulchral Chapel, also known as the Sepulchral Mosque or the Sepulchral Tomb of Sultana Valide, located in the historic Eminönü district of Istanbul, Turkey. Built between 1665 and 1668, the chapel was commissioned by Sultana Valide Sultan, the mother of Sultan Mehmed IV, as a mausoleum for herself and her family. The Sepulchral Chapel is a stunning example of Ottoman architecture, with its intricate tilework, calligraphy, and geometric designs. The exterior is adorned with blue and green Iznik tiles, while the interior features ornate marble decorations and intricate stucco work. The central dome is supported by four large piers, each topped with a gilded medallion. The Sepulchral Chapel was designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Sinan Aga, who also designed many other famous structures in Istanbul, including the Sultanahmet Mosque and the Rustem Pasha Mosque.
