EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a selection of the once-unparalleled Russian imperial regalia, now known as the Romanoff Treasures, which were acquired by an English syndicate and sold at the esteemed Christie's Auction Rooms in 1927. The Romanoff Treasures, a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the Russian Imperial Family, include several exquisite pieces of jewellery that were once worn by the Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna and her family. Prominently displayed in this image is the Nuptial Crown, a magnificent and ornate diadem adorned with precious gems, including rubies, diamonds, and emeralds. The crown, crafted in the late 19th century, was worn by Tsarina Alexandra during her wedding to Tsar Nicholas II in 1894. Another captivating piece in this collection is the magnificent brooch, which features a large central pearl surrounded by diamonds and other precious gems. The brooch is believed to have been a gift from Tsar Alexander III to his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna, in 1885. The green jasper snuff box, a rare and intricately designed container, is also featured in this photograph. This box, adorned with gold and precious stones, was a gift from Tsar Alexander III to his mother, Empress Maria Feodorovna, in 1887. Lastly, the diamond tiara, with its elegant and timeless design, adds to the allure of the Romanoff Treasures. The exact origin of this tiara is unknown, but it is believed to have been part of the imperial collection. These precious pieces of history, once cherished by the Romanovs, now stand as a reminder of the rich and complex history of the Russian Imperial Family. The sale of the Romanoff Treasures at Christie's Auction Rooms in 1927 marked the end of an era, as these treasures were dispersed among private collectors and institutions around the world.
