EDITORS COMMENTS
In this elegant and timeless photograph, Princess Marina of Greece, born in 1906, is seen in a radiant and joyful moment as she prepares for her wedding to His Royal Highness Prince George, Duke of Kent, on November 25, 1934. The young princess, who was the eldest daughter of Prince and Princess Nicolas of Greece, exudes an aura of grace and beauty as she dons her exquisite bridal gown, adorned with intricate beadwork and lace, for her union with the dashing British prince. Princess Marina's wedding was a grand affair, held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, and was attended by members of the British and Greek royal families, as well as high-ranking dignitaries and nobility from around the world. The union of the Greek and British royal houses was a significant event, as it marked the first time that a Greek princess had married into the British royal family. The couple's love story began when they met during the 1930 Coronation Durbar in India, where both were representing their respective countries. Their engagement was announced in July 1934, and their wedding was held just a few months later. Princess Marina and Prince George went on to have three children together: Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. This beautiful photograph captures a precious moment in the life of Princess Marina, as she embarks on a new chapter as a royal bride, and serves as a testament to the enduring beauty and elegance of the royal wedding traditions of the early 20th century.
