Titanias Palace: A Miniature Marvel of Irish Craftsmanship and Fairyland's Royal Residence This photograph showcases the Northern Facade of Titanias Palace, an intricately designed dollhouse created between 1907 and 1922 by renowned Irish cabinet makers, James Hicks & Sons. Commissioned by Sir Nevile Wilkinson, this exquisite masterpiece is made primarily of old mahogany and oak, with grand oak pillars adorning the facade. The Palace is a testament to the dedication and skill of its creators, taking apart in eight sections for ease of transportation. In the foreground, the Grey Fairy, the royal motor car of Fairyland, adds a magical touch to the scene. Sir Nevile Wilkinson, a man of great vision, loaned Titanias Palace to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in the early 1930s. During its travels around the country, the Palace attracted the wonder and admiration of thousands, including the 4,882 visitors who marveled at it in Croydon. The exhibition led to over 150 donations, an impressive sum equivalent to approximately 10,000 in 2017 prices, being raised for the Croydon Branch of the NSPCC. This photograph transports us to a bygone era, where the art of miniature construction reached new heights, and the magic of Fairyland came alive in the most unexpected of places.
