EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures Edward, HRH Prince of Wales, wearing the historic Robes of the Garter during his investiture at Windsor Castle on June 10th, 1911. The image, taken by renowned photographer David Knights Whittome, showcases the young prince in all his regal glory, adorned in the traditional attire of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. The Robes of the Garter, a symbol of the highest chivalric honour in the United Kingdom, are adorned with the Garter itself, which bears the inscription "Honi-soit-qui-mal-y-pense," or "Shame on him who thinks evil of it." The Garter, which is worn around the left knee, was once owned by the late Duke of Cambridge and was bequeathed to Prince Edward. The Tudor hat atop the prince's head is adorned with the plumes of the Prince of Wales. The investiture ceremony, held at Windsor Castle, marked a significant moment in the prince's life as he took on the role and responsibilities of the Prince of Wales. The photograph captures the essence of tradition and pomp that surrounds the British monarchy, offering a glimpse into the rich history and pageantry of the royal family.
