EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the charming facade of the Spring Tavern in Wrotham, Kent, as it looked in the late 1940s. The image, taken in 1948, shows the pub's inviting frontage with its red-painted sign and ornate brickwork. The Spring Tavern was a beloved local establishment, having served the community for several decades prior to this photograph. The back of the print reveals intriguing details about the pub's history. According to the trading record, the Spring Tavern was in operation as early as 1939 and continued to thrive until at least 1961. The address provided, TN15 7RR, places the pub in the heart of Wrotham. Sadly, this historic building is no longer standing. As of July 2018, the site of the Spring Tavern has been transformed into Nepicar Business Park. The loss of this pub is a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of our towns and villages, and the importance of preserving the memories of the past. The Spring Tavern was not owned by a large brewery or corporation, but rather was an independent local business. It was a place where friends and neighbors gathered to socialize, share stories, and enjoy a pint. This photograph offers a glimpse into a bygone era, a time when local pubs were the heart of the community. Whether you're a history buff, a local resident, or simply someone who appreciates the charm of a well-loved pub, this photograph of the Spring Tavern in Wrotham is a must-have addition to your collection.
