This evocative photograph captures the corner exterior of the Pigeons Public House in Stratford, East London, as it looked in the 1930s. The Pigeons, located at 154-156 High Street, Stratford E15 4EH, has a rich history that dates back to at least 1929, as evidenced by the trading record printed on the reverse side of this image. In this black-and-white photograph, the pub's brick facade is adorned with ornate signage, featuring the name "Pigeons" and the image of a pigeon perched on a post, surrounded by intricate patterns and scrollwork. The large, arched windows allow glimpses of the cozy interior, where patrons would have gathered around the bar for a pint and a chat. The Savill Brothers are believed to have owned the Pigeons during this era, but the pub's history predates their tenure. By 1961, the pub had undergone some changes, as indicated by the updated trading record on the reverse. Fast forward to July 2018, and the Pigeons had transformed yet again, becoming a Tesco Express convenience store. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the pub's past, offering a glimpse into the social and architectural history of Stratford during the 1930s.
