This stunning chromolithograph depicts the Giant Loquat, or Eriobotrya japonica, a tropical fruit tree native to China and Japan. The illustration, created by the skilled hand of botanical artist William H. Prestele, was published in Henry van Deman's Report of the Pomologist, a comprehensive study of fruit cultivation in the United States, produced by the US Government Printing Office in 1892. The Giant Loquat tree is known for its large, juicy fruit, which resembles a small peach but has a unique, sweet-tart flavor and a texture reminiscent of a ripe medlar.
