EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the charming corner facade of the historic Bedford Arms pub in Walworth, London. Established in the late 19th century, this public house was once a beloved local watering hole and community hub, nestled in the heart of the Walworth area. The pub was owned by the Charrington and Company Limited, a prominent name in the British brewing industry. The red brick exterior, adorned with intricate stonework and ornate details, exudes a sense of history and character. The large, arched windows allow natural light to filter in, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The Bedford Arms was a popular gathering place for locals, offering a place to socialize, enjoy a pint, and connect with neighbors. Unfortunately, as of July 2018, this cherished pub has been demolished, leaving only memories and photographs like this one to remind us of its existence. The loss of the Bedford Arms is a reminder of the ever-changing urban landscape and the importance of preserving the history of our communities. This photograph, taken by The National Brewery Heritage Trust, serves as a testament to the rich history of public houses in London and the role they play in shaping the social fabric of our neighborhoods.
