This historical print captures a moment in time when two influential Liberal politicians, David Lloyd George and Herbert Samuel, were engrossed in watching a passing parade. The photograph was taken in July 1916, during a pivotal period in their careers. At the time, Lloyd George held the position of War Minister while Samuel served as Home Secretary.
Little did they know that later that year, Lloyd George would go on to replace Herbert Henry Asquith as Prime Minister, a role he would hold until 1922. Meanwhile, Samuel's career continued to flourish as he served again as Home Secretary in 1931 and took on the important role of High Commissioner for Palestine from 1920 to 1925.
Aside from their political endeavors, both men were also accomplished authors with Samuel penning several philosophical works throughout his lifetime.
