EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful photograph captures a tender moment in the history of the British royal family, featuring Viscount Lascelles, later the 6th Earl of Harewood, and his beloved wife, Princess Mary of Teck, with their two young sons, George Hubert and Gerald David, in the nursery of Harewood House in 1882. Henry George Charles Lascelles, the eldest son of the 5th Earl of Harewood, was born on March 15, 1857, and married Princess Mary of Teck on March 25, 1893. Mary, who later became Queen Mary, was the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Teck and was a granddaughter of King George III. The couple's first son, George Hubert, was born on January 18, 1895, and their second son, Gerald David, was born on July 1, 1897. In this photograph, the family is gathered around the cradle of their youngest son, Gerald, who is only a few months old. The tender expression on the faces of the parents and the peaceful atmosphere of the nursery create a heartwarming image of family life. The Lascelles family has a rich history that dates back to the 16th century, and the title of Earl of Harewood was first created in 1715 for Henry Lascelles, the 1st Earl. The family's ancestral home, Harewood House, is located in Yorkshire and is renowned for its stunning architecture and beautiful gardens. This photograph is a precious reminder of the close bond between the parents and their young sons, and it offers a glimpse into the private life of the British royal family during the late 19th century. The image is a testament to the love and care that Mary and Henry provided to their children and the strong family ties that have endured throughout the generations.
