EDITORS COMMENTS
In this striking photograph, Princess Mary, the future Viscountess Lascelles, is seen in the elegant splendor of her bridal attire, shortly after her marriage to the Viscount Frederick Lascelles on March 28, 1922. The Princess, who was born on May 25, 1897, was the youngest daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, making her a member of the British royal family. Mary's bridal gown, designed by the renowned couturier Madame Lucile, was a vision of grace and sophistication. The high-necked, long-sleeved dress was adorned with intricate beadwork and lace, creating an ethereal effect. Mary's headpiece, a delicate diadem of pearls and diamonds, added to her regal appearance. The marriage ceremony took place at the Chapel Royal in St. James's Palace, London, in the presence of the King and Queen, as well as other members of the royal family and high-ranking dignitaries. The bride and groom exchanged vows in front of a small congregation, marking the beginning of their life together. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds departed from the palace in a carriage, waving to the cheering crowds that had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal couple. Mary's radiant smile and the joy in her eyes were a testament to the love and happiness she felt on this momentous day. This photograph, taken in 1922, captures a significant moment in the life of Princess Mary, who went on to become the Viscountess Lascelles and the mother of the 6th Earl of Harewood. The image is a beautiful reminder of the elegance and grandeur of the British monarchy during the early 20th century.
