The image relates to the National Service of Private Philip F Dyer, who served with this distinguished regiment during a pivotal period in Cyprus's history. During the late 1940s and 1950s, Cyprus was embroiled in a violent struggle for independence from British rule, with the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA) leading the resistance. The Middlesex Regiment was among the British forces deployed to maintain order and quell the insurgency. In this photograph, we see a soldier's quarters filled with the essentials required for combat and survival.
