EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a significant moment in British royal history: the marriage of His Royal Highness the Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII, to Mrs. Wallis Warfield on the 3rd of June, 1937. Following his abdication from the throne in December 1936, the Duke found happiness with the American socialite, Wallis Simpson. The announcement of their union caused controversy due to Mrs. Simpson's previous marriages and her divorce being still in progress. Despite the public's initial disapproval, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor remained devoted to each other, and their marriage lasted until the Duke's death in 1972. This image, taken outside, showcases the couple's joy and contentment as they embark on their new life together. The Duke, dressed in a formal morning coat, and Mrs. Simpson, elegantly attired in a long, flowing dress, exude an air of happiness and tranquility. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of a controversial yet enduring royal romance.
