In this evocative group photograph, taken on 24 January 1919, in Sudan, the Governor General of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, Sir Lee Oliver Fitzmaurice Stack (1868-1924), is seen with his staff, including the Sirdar of the Egyptian Army, in the midst of a sun-soaked landscape.
