Born in 1608, Gaston was the younger brother of King Louis XIII and the uncle of the famous Sun King, Louis XIV. He held significant political power as Chef des conseils, or Chief Advisor, to his brother and later became the Governor of Languedoc. He was known for his charisma and military prowess, which earned him the nickname "Monsieur," a title that would later be bestowed upon his nephew, Louis XIV. However, Gaston's desire for power and control often put him at odds with his brother and the powerful Cardinal Richelieu.
