EDITORS COMMENTS
"Will you wish me luck, dear friends and family, as I embark on this new theatrical adventure? I, Mary Eastlake, also known as Miss Eastlake to the adoring crowds, am about to take the stage once again at the prestigious Princess's Theatre. The year is 1886, and I have been the leading lady here since 1881. I am known for my captivating performances in melodramas that leave audiences in awe. In this photograph, I am seen carrying a basket filled with fresh eggs, dressed in the height of Victorian fashion. My frilly collar, cuffs, and pinafore are adorned with delicate floral patterns, adding to my youthful and feminine appearance. The apron I wear protects my dress from any potential spills or stains, a necessity for any theatrical performance. Despite the seriousness of my role on stage, I cannot help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness as I prepare for another night of entertainment. I invite you all to join me at the Princess's Theatre and witness my latest performance. May the applause be in our favor!" Mary Eastlake, born in 1856, was a popular and talented actress of the late Victorian era.
