Dressed in a natural, layered outfit typical of the era, she wears a long, flowing skirt and a blouse with a high collar. But it is her shoes, or rather the pattens over them, that draw the most attention. Pattens were a common accessory in the Victorian era, particularly during inclement weather. These wooden or metal devices were worn over shoes to protect the feet from mud, rain, and snow, as well as from the damaging effects of constant contact with the ground. In this case, they seem to be the girl's only defense against the gusty winds that whip her skirt and ruffle her hair. Despite the challenging conditions, the girl's expression remains determined and resilient. Her posture is upright, her gaze steady, and her grip on her parasol firm.
