Born on September 21, 1364, in Paris, France, Charles was the eldest son of King John II and his second wife, Joan of Bourbon. At the tender age of six, Charles ascended to the throne following his father's death, marking the beginning of a reign that would last until his own demise in 1380. During his brief yet significant reign, Charles demonstrated remarkable wisdom and maturity beyond his years. He was known for his prudence, fairness, and strong leadership, earning him the moniker "le Sage," or "the Wise." Despite his youth, Charles managed to maintain peace within his realm and strengthen diplomatic relations with neighboring powers.
