The date is March 11, 1918, and MacArthur, then a colonel, is commanding the 84th Brigade of the 42nd "Rainbow" Division. MacArthur is depicted in his full military uniform, complete with the distinctive insignia of his rank, which he would later wear with pride as a five-star general during World War II.
