However, behind his regal appearance lies a tragic tale of mental illness. King George III suffered from a medical condition that affected his mental faculties, resulting in periods of madness. This condition was later identified as porphyria, which greatly impacted his ability to govern effectively. As a result, his son, who would become known as George IV, acted as Regent during some parts of his reign.
