EDITORS COMMENTS
In this humorous stereoscopic card titled "Oh! You're a Peach" we are transported back to the early 1900s, where corsets were an essential part of women's fashion. The sepia-toned photo captures a young woman being laced into her corset, showcasing the effort and struggle involved in achieving the desired hourglass figure. The Keystone View Company, known for distributing stereoscopic images during that era, presents us with a glimpse into the belle epoque period. Stereoscopic cards like these were popular at the time, providing viewers with a three-dimensional image when viewed through a stereoscope. With a touch of humor and irony, this photograph highlights both the physical discomfort and societal expectations placed upon women in their pursuit of beauty. Despite the challenging task at hand, our young protagonist smiles through it all, perhaps finding solace in knowing she is not alone in this struggle. This image serves as a reminder of how fashion trends have evolved over time and sheds light on the undergarments that shaped women's silhouettes during this era. It also invites us to reflect on society's ever-changing standards of beauty and how they impact individuals' lives. As we gaze upon this charming piece from Bridgeman Images' private collection, we are reminded that even amidst struggles and constraints imposed by society, there is always room for laughter and resilience.
