Gerber Und Farber / Tanners and Colourers (colour litho)

8666285 Gerber Und Farber / Tanners and Colourers (colour litho) by German School, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: Gerber Und Farber. Translation: Tanners and Colourers. The two ancient trades of tanning and dyeing go hand in hand. During tanning, raw animal hides were soaked for days, cleaned and then processed into leather in tanners. Then followed the colors in large containers. The invention of aniline dyes simplified the process without supplanting the beauty of the old natural colors (first German tar paint factory 1863).
