EDITORS COMMENTS
This print by Chris McEvoy captures the exhilarating moment of Richard Tarling in his Crossle 25F, competing in the HSCC Classic Formula Ford Championship with Historic Formula 3 Championship. The Classic Formula Ford Championship segment of the grid showcases remarkable 1600cc cars that once roared on racetracks during the vibrant era of the 1970s. Divided into two classes based on their construction dates, this championship brings together both pre-1974 and post-1974 vehicles until the end of 1981. The Historic F3 category adds another layer of nostalgia to this event as it features racers that faithfully recreate the same configuration they possessed from January 1964 to December 1970. With three distinct classes, including early-era side-draught engined cars from '64-'65 and later downdraught engined cars from '66-'70, this championship pays homage to a golden age in motorsport history. An invitation class also allows competitors who adhere to Historic F3's European Trophy Regulations for 1000cc engines. Set against Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in Northamptonshire, England on May 15th, 2022, this photograph encapsulates not only a thrilling display of speed but also an enduring love for classic racing cars and historic motor racing. As we gaze upon Tarling maneuvering his powerful machine without any wings or aerodynamic aids permitted across all classes, we are transported back to a time when raw skill and mechanical prowess were paramount. Chris McEvoy's lens perfectly captures every detail and emotion within this timeless image—a testament to his passion for classic cars and motorsport photography.
