EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a poignant tribute to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives in service of their country during World War II. Lady MacRobert of Douneside, Tarland, Aberdeenshire has bestowed upon the Royal Air Force (RAF) four Hurricanes that will soon embark on a mission in the Middle East. Three of these aircraft bear the names of her fallen airman sons, paying homage to their ultimate sacrifice. The fourth machine is aptly named "Salute to Russia" symbolizing admiration for the unwavering courage displayed by the Soviet people. Adorned with the proud arms of Clan MacRobert, these planes will join a squadron where Lady MacRobert's second son, Sir Roderic, had valiantly served before tragically losing his life in Mosul just months prior. This powerful image captures not only the physical badges adorning each Hurricane but also serves as a reminder of honor and remembrance for those who have given everything for their nation. Transporting us back to September 1942 amidst an era fraught with conflict and uncertainty, this photograph encapsulates both sorrow and resilience within its frame. It stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit that unites nations during times of war while highlighting individual acts of bravery that should never be forgotten or diminished.
