Former Conservative politician Chris Patten, who lost his Bath seat in the 1992 General election, takes up his post as the 28th and last Governor of Hong Kong on 9th July 1992.
After swearing three oaths - the oath of allegiance, the official oath and the judicial oath - he told the colonys political and business community he would devote his term in office to creating a stable and prosperous future for Hong Kong.
