EDITORS COMMENTS
On the run. . . Rawthorpe High and Junior school pupils keep on running for Sport Aid - and could even have the chance to run in New York. The youngsters, all under 14, took part in a 1,000-meter race which schools are organizing individually. Participation makes them eligible to be registered on a computer which will pick two to run in a worldwide fun run on September 11. The photo captures the vibrant energy of these young students as they sprint towards the finish line with determination etched across their faces. Their enthusiasm is palpable, fueled by both personal achievement and the opportunity to contribute to a greater cause. In order to participate, each pupil paid 30p and some were sponsored by friends and family members. This collective effort aims at raising funds for Sport Aid, an organization dedicated to supporting sports initiatives globally. This snapshot from June 14th, 1988 showcases not only the spirit of charity but also highlights how education can foster community engagement through physical activities like running races. Located in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, Rawthorpe High and Junior School serves as an example of how schools can instill values such as perseverance and empathy within their students. As these young runners push themselves beyond their limits during this race, they embody the essence of teamwork while striving towards a common goal. With hopes of being selected for the world-wide fun run event later that year or even securing an opportunity to compete in New York City – this photograph encapsulates youthful ambition
