EDITORS COMMENTS
Pure Joy: Laura Milson, 3, of Whitley Bay, expresses her gratitude to engine driver Ken Hedley at the North Tyneside Stephenson Railway Museum. On a sunny summer day in August 1998, little Laura embarked on an unforgettable adventure aboard the Teddy Bear Special. With a beaming smile and her beloved teddy bear in tow, she eagerly hopped onto one of the vintage carriages. As the steam-powered train chugged along the tracks, Laura's excitement grew with each passing moment. The rhythmic sound of wheels against rails echoed through the station as she peered out from one of the windows. The journey transported her back to a bygone era when trains were not just modes of transport but vessels of imagination and wonder. Upon reaching their destination, Laura couldn't contain her joy any longer. She bounded off the carriage and rushed towards Ken Hedley, who had skillfully guided them on this enchanting ride. Grateful for his role in making her day so special, she reached up to shake his hand while clutching tightly onto her cherished teddy bear. This heartwarming encounter captured by NCJ's lens epitomizes the magic that public transport can bring to our lives – connecting generations and creating lasting memories. It serves as a reminder that even simple moments like riding a steam train can leave an indelible mark on our hearts.
