The Belgian town of Termonde after being recaptured is now only a heap of ruins
The Belgian town of Termonde after being recaptured is now only a heap of ruins, and the picture shows the devastation caused by the Germans during their occupation. Houses were deliberatly fired and destroyed by the German in retribution for the Belgians not giving them free passage. Our Picture Shows: The statue to Flemish poet Prudens van Duyse stands amidst the ruins of the Belgium town of Termonde, which was destroyed during the German occupation of the town in September 1914 Circa September 8th 1914
