EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to a momentous exhibition in Bristol during September 1945. The focal point of the display is an adorable cut-out wooden toy dog named "Wallop" designed by Arthur Ferrier under the guidance of Mr. S. R. Gage, the Managing Director of a prominent Bristol Engineering firm. Mr. Gage's own cairn terrier served as inspiration for this charming creation, which quickly caught the attention of Royal Air Force (RAF) personnel present at the event. It was they who bestowed upon it the delightful name "Wallop". The photograph captures not only the ingenuity behind this wooden toy but also hints at its potential impact on production lines across Britain. With hopes to manufacture an impressive 15,000 "Wallops" each week, Mr. Gage envisions a future where these enchanting toys bring joy to countless children. The image offers a glimpse into post-war industry and showcases how creativity can flourish even amidst challenging times. As we admire this snapshot from history, we are reminded of both the resilience and imagination that characterized those years. Memory Lane Prints presents us with yet another treasure from our past—a testament to innovation, craftsmanship, and above all else, the enduring power of playfulness embodied in Wallop's endearing presence.
