This striking image captures the moment of historical significance when Matthias, the Austrian archduke, was crowned Holy Roman Emperor at Frankfurt on February 21, 1612. The Imperial crown, a symbol of the emperor's secular and spiritual authority, is being placed on Matthias' head by the Archbishop of Mainz, Albrecht von Wallenstein.
