The photograph depicts Mr. and Mrs. Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence, along with Christabel Pankhurst, arriving at Bow Street Court on October 14, 1908. The trio were charged with incitement to rush the House of Commons, an act of civil disobedience aimed at drawing attention to the cause of women's suffrage. Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence (1867-1913) and her husband Frederick Pethick-Lawrence (1867-1942) were prominent figures in the Suffragette movement, using their publishing company, the Women's Dreadnought, to spread the message of women's rights and suffrage. Christabel Pankhurst (1880-1958), the eldest daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, was also a leading figure in the movement, known for her militant tactics and fiery speeches.
