Suffragette Board Game PANK-A-SQUITH
A suffragette board game called Pank-A-Squith which was first advertised in the pages of Votes for Women, October 1909. It was described as a highly artistic TABLE GAME that helps to spread the movement. A suffragette tries to get from her home to the Houses of Parliament facing a series of challenges and various incidents. There are 50 squares, each having a detailed and colourful vignette, showing 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park Demonstrations, Bow St. Court, Queen's Hall, Clements Inn, Mrs. Pankhurst, Inspector Jarvis, Prime Minister Asquith, Tax Resistance, The Suffragette Dreadnought, Hunger Strikers, Holloway Prison and the forging of suffragette brand handcuffs. There are six metal suffragette figures with sashes and scrolls. The base of the board is of purple, white and green stripes. Date: 1909

Mary Jane Clarke W.S.P.U. Mary Jane Clarke, (1863-1910) Younger sister of Emmeline Pankhurst. In 1909, she was organiser for the W.S.P.U, living in Brighton, a year later, running the organisations General Election campaign. She took part in the Black Friday deputation of November 18th 1910, was arrested and imprisoned, she died a few days after her release on Christmas day. Date: circa 1910

Suffragettes Pankhurst and Gawthorpe Rutland 1907
Christabel Pankhurst and Mary Gawthorpe in the Market Place, Uppingham, holding a meeting during the 1907 Rutland bye-election. The campaign saw Mary Gawthorpe the victim of dirty tricks by supporters of the Liberal candidate, W.F Lyons. Sylvia Pankhurst later gave an account of an incident when Mary was struck on the head by a pot-egg (a china dummy egg) and knocked unconscious. Youths were apparently paid by a wealthy Liberal supporter to hurl sweets at suffragette speakers (see Votes for Women 6th August 1909) Polling was held on11th Juneand the Conservative was duly elected. Date: 1907
