The G37 was a development of the successful Gloster Gines Gloster Aircraft Company's response to the British Air Ministry's requirement for a utility transport aircraft in the late 1940s. The resulting aircraft was a sturdy and reliable design, capable of carrying up to 12 passengers or 2,500 pounds of cargo. Its versatility was further enhanced by its ability to be easily converted for various roles, including medical evacuation, survey, and communication duties. The G37 entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1951 and saw extensive use in various roles until its retirement in the late 1970s.
